Coastal ice domes in West Antarctica preserve snowfall records that reflect past climate conditions. Using weather reanalysis from 1979 to 2022, this study identifies which domes best capture different climate drivers affecting the region. Western sites respond mainly to hemisphere-wide wind shifts, while eastern sites reflect regional storm patterns. These results guide where future ice cores should be drilled to reconstruct past atmospheric and oceanic changes in this vulnerable region.

This study examines how winds, ocean currents, and Saharan dust affect the movement of carbon-rich material from surface waters to the deep ocean off Northwest Africa. By tracing surface seawater pathways and quantifying sinking particles throughout the year, the work shows that winter-spring upwelling drive this transfer, while summer dust helps carry organic matter downward. These findings can be used to improve forecasts of how the ocean will store carbon in the future.

Flooding can influence population movements. However, most studies of future flood damage costs do not consider these movements. We examined how such movements may change future flood damage costs in Japan. National and prefectural effects were small, but some municipalities showed reductions of more than 10 % in these costs. These results show that considering population movements can improve future flood risk planning.
